2015 NBA Draft | Timberwolves Go Big, Lakers Don't

1. Minnesota Timberwolves

As expected, the Minnesota Timberwolves held onto the pick and took Karl-Anthony Towns from Kentucky. The big man was a shoo-in for the top spot. They will feature three consecutive first overall picks. There's Anthony Bennett, Andrew Wiggins, and now Towns. This team will be something to be reckoned with if they do it right. Don't forget you have Kevin Garnett back to mentor the big, Zach LaVine to get the crowd up, and Shabazz Muhammad whose shown life again.

2. Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers haven't been in the NBA Draft as a lottery often but when they're there, they usually do well. Last year's #7 pick didn't go accordingly as Julius Randle broke his leg in the first game of the season. That's in the past, as he's been looking good in workouts. Last season, the Lakers were disasterous and continued to spiral downwards. That led to the number two pick in which they selected D'Angelo Russell. Jahlil Okafor was suspected to go number two but the Lakers chose to go small. What do we have to say? It's a guards' game now. Game 5 of the NBA Finals featured a line up of guards and forwards without any true centers on the floor. 

 

3. Philadelphia 76ers

The Sixers may be stuck in the past. Once again, they've drafted a Center. Hopefully Okafor will play in his first season. Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid missed their first seasons with injuries. It looks like Embiid may miss a second one to as he's not healing properly. Good luck with that Philly...

4. New York Knicks

Here's the best way to put it:

Okay, Kristaps Porzingis may not be terrible but for such a passionate franchise, it's hard to impress the fans by drafting an overseas player that nobody has seen much. It's a huge gamble that may pay off down the line. Until then, Knicks fans have to stick with it and have faith in Phil Jackson and the front office.

Notables:

- Willie Cauley-Stein will play with fellow Wildcat, DeMarcus Cousins, unless he is moved

- Justice Winslow slipped to the 10th spot to Miami

- One of the Harrison twins from Kentucky didn't get selected (Only member of the 7 Kentucky players to enter)

- RJ Hunter and Kevon Looney expected to be lottery picks went late in the first

- Jordan Brand Classic MVP turned into Kansas Jayhawk,  Cliff Alexander went undrafted

- Lakers selected the NBA's first Dunk Contest winner, Larry Nance's son, Larry Nance Jr.

- Lots of trades, but fairly quiet night
