How to Clean Shoe Laces

Laces are often the most overlooked part of the shoe. They can be frequently forgotten or disregarded during cleaning.  Whatever you do, don't put dirty laces on a clean shoe.  With a few easy steps they are the fastest way to turn your sneakers from a 1 to a 10.

Flat Lace – Stained with colored powder

• Step 1: Combine water and solution (dye and alcohol free is the best way to go for white laces) into a bowl. Dip laces a few times to lather.

• Step 2: Rub laces back and forth with hands to remove stains.

• Step 3: If necessary, apply more solution to the laces using a soft bristled brush, moving in a fluid top to bottom motion to get deeper into the fibers.

• Step 4: Dry laces by ringing them through a lint free microfiber towel.

Lettered Laces – Off-White Laces

• Step 1: To protect the lettering on the laces, loosely tie off around the print.

• Step 2: Combine water and solution into a bowl. Dip laces a few times to lather.
• Step 3: Using caution surrounding the letters, rub laces back and forth with hands until clean.
• Step 4: Dry laces with microfiber towel, using minimal pressure near printed areas.

Rope Lace – Stained with mud

• Step 1: Combine water and solution into a bowl, detergent may be needed for an extra whitening boost. Dip laces into mixture to flush out dirt.
• Step 2: Rub laces back and forth in hands to scrub.
• Step 3: For extra whitening power, it may be necessary to add laundry detergent to the water mixture. This works well to remove stains caused by fabric bleed around lace loops or deep dirt marks. 

• Step 4: Dry laces with microfiber towel.

Clean shoe laces confidently no matter what style. When you are cleaning colored laces, there may be some color bleed in the water, this is normal. If the water becomes discolored due to dye or dirt it may be necessary to change out the water. Keep your sneakers fresh from aglet to aglet.
